Basketball- 6

Well, we had a fun year and did well over all. In the Big 4 tournament we got beat by Huron by one point. So, then we couldn’t play in the championship game against Brookings. We played for the third and fourth place game and we beat Watertown and got third. But before we played Huron, the popcorn machine set off the fire alarm so we were standing outside in just shorts and the rest of our gear for 20 minutes to a half-an-hour. We were relieved when we knew we could go back inside and start to warm up for the biggest game of the tournament. When we lost, we were all crushed because we had just lost our last chance to beat Huron in our seventh grade season. We were zero and three against them that season. When we played Watertown the next game after that, coach said to take all our anger out on them because they were an easy team to beat. That was my last game of the season and I had a lot of fun. This post will be my last post and thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed reading all about my seventh grade basketball season. Bye!!

Basketball- 5

This week is one if the biggest weeks of my 7th grade basketball career because this is the week we get ready for the Big 4 tournament in Watertown. This week we have just gotten back from Brookings winning a close one, 29 – 26. We are now getting ready for our tournament by doing tough drills like the zig-zag drill where we play one-on- one defense against each other up and down the court. We also are conserving most of our energy though and not going very long for practices. We are playing a certain kind of defense in practice to stop Huron because lately they have lined up around the perimeter and taken their guy one-on-one to the basket and get an and-one or two foul shots. We have developed a defense in which they won’t score more than ten points off of it. Our offense is coming along really well now that we have put a lot of back cuts or backdoors. We can score a lot of points off of our new offenses. We play Huron at 10:15 in the morning and whoever wins that game basically wins the whole tournament. We can beat Watertown and we have already beat Brookings just this week so if we can get past the first game, we’ll be able to get past the second one. Bye for now!

Basketball-4

This week in my seventh grade season of basketball we are getting ready for the big Yankton tournement, Tuesday's game against Brookings and our Big Four or our state tournement. Lately, we have been doing this certain drill to help with our defense and it has two poeple in it and it's like one-on-one only you don't shoot, you just go from one side of the court to the other and we do that for about fifteen to twenty minutes. Then we usually play three-on-three. the coaches usually split up or play on the same team. After that we work on our post up moves. We have one guy post up another guy and one guy pass it in from the wing. Then we switch. When we are all done with drills we shoot free-throws. Each player shoots one or two. If you make the first on, you shoot the second one. if you make the second one, we go to the next guy. If you dont we have to run a sprint. If you miss the first one then we run a ladder. We had to run alot yesterday because some of our teamates couldn't make a free-throw. Today I don't think we will have to run because Mr. Moller doesn't make us run if we have a game the next day, especially if it's a tournement where the "A" team has three games and so does the "B" team. It's going to be a long day of basketball and a tough one. Bye for now!

Basketball-3

Well, we lost yesterday against Yankton at home by 8 points. Our coach said we played some nice defense in the first 3 minutes and then we got lazy and quit playing defense and offense. Now we have to put that loss behind us and get ready for Aberdeen tommorrow. They will be tougher than Yankton but we will try our best. Today everyone wants to have the game canceled for Saturday but I dont want it to because then today after school at practice coach Moller is going to make our lives miserable for the hour and a half that he has us. If our game isn't canceled he won't make us do the hard stuff because he doesn't want us to get all tired out before the game. As I said in my last post, we got killed by like 20 and this game will be one of the toughest games of the year, "but we will have to play like were capable of and we will do just fine," is what coach always says. their whole team, including the guards, are humungus! they are really hard to get rebounds off of and hard to move and box them out. We will really need to man up and try to stay with them the whole game , defensively and offensively.

Basketball- 2

This week in my basketball season we got worked really hard in one particular practice. This practice was a day before our game and was the worst practice I have ever had during the 2009-2010 seventh grade season. Coach Moller and Coach Pat love to see us suffer during the conditioning part of practice, so they tried to find the worst possible work-outs for the team. So, Coach Moller made us do relay races with like shuffling, back-pedaling and the grape vine. then he made us hold our basketballs or a certain number of cones above our head for like 5 minutes and do like shuffling and quick feet drills all while were holding the items above our head coach Yesterday, Thursday, January 28th, 2010 we played the small town of Parkston. The score at the end of the game was 38-26. Now, since all of my hard work in practice and the games I get into paid off, I get to start on the ''A'' team. Tomorrow, we play Yankton here in Mitchell at the Senior High lower gym. We lost by 2 the last game but this time, Coach Moller and Coach Larson won’t let that happen. After Friday goes by we go to Aberdeen on Saturday. We lost by a lot and got our butts kicked, but I think we can maybe pull it off. There a good team and it's going to be a long bus trip!!!

Basketball-1

The reason I picked this topic was because this is the sport I am in right now. We have just finished our game in Yankton and the” A” team lost by 2. The “B” team lost by I think 30. The “C” team won by 10. Mr. Moller is our coach and he makes us do the hardest drills sometimes. One of the drills is wall sits, but I and my teammate Beau find ways to make it easier to do the drills because we put pressure on our knees and it takes the pain away. Another drill is one where we take a ball and hold it above our heads while our teammates dribble around us and say each person’s name as they weave around each person. When Mr. Moller is in a bad mood he will make us do it for what seems forever but is only like 4 minutes. Today, we play here in Mitchell against our biggest rival, Huron. They have some really good talent on their team, especially their point guard because he has some really good ball- handling skills and he can sometimes shoot the outside shot. Today will be a tough challenge, but I think we can pull it off and win.

First semester portfolio- A piece I'd like to revise

The piece I would like to revise is the one I wrote in the second quarter that was about hunting. This is a haiku poem I wrote. My ideas in writing this came from thinking of my best friend Matt because he always hunts and I know he even cleans his kills. So I wrote about it...

Hunting
Pheasants everywhere
All hearing the CRACK of guns

Darting for tall corn

... In this piece i thought I could've gone back and revised it and used some better and bigger words. I also could've used some bigger adjectives to describe my nouns.
